Illegal Immigration: what should we do about it?

Immigration is an issue that I have been seeing pop up a lot lately. It is an extremely controversial topic but nonetheless one that needs to be addressed.

I think that we should pass the DREAM act. It is a no brainer really. For those of you who don’t know, the DREAM act if passed will give U.S. citizenship to illegal alien students who are of good moral character IF they complete two years in the military or two years in an institute of higher learning (college).

Now think about it. This will help us out much more than it will hurt us. First of all, it gives these students a chance to go to college and contribute to society which many of them are willing to do. And even if they do not wish to do this, they can join the U.S. military for two years. Without the DREAM act, they will continue to work as illegal aliens and not pay a cent in income tax. Isn’t it much better to actually put them to good use?

I am curious to see what you guys think about this. Do you approve of the DREAM act or oppose it?

I also think we should make the process of becoming a legal immigrant for adults much easier. One of the reasons why so many people never register to be a citizen is due to the sheer amount of paperwork, high cost, and long amount of time that it takes. It should be much easier than this, that way more illegal immigrants will be encouraged to become legal.

  1. An immigrant should be able to register as a foreign worker with just a photo, DNA swab and finger prints. Let them come in but if they have a kid here it does not count as an 'anchor baby'. Then severely punish any employer that hires an unregistered worker.
They are on file, they pay txes, they can NOT vote but if they get in an accident or victim of a crime they are on file and can talk to the cops.

  2. I'm Canadian so I doesn't make any difference to me :P But I like that you think it should be easier to become a legal immigrant for adults

  4. This can't do anything but help. Sandbaggers will go away and we keep the cream of the crop.

  5. Never heard of DREAM, but it's an interesting idea. I wonder if the schools will get flooded with students and over educated people in the job market will lead to economic issues. Keep it up, this is some top notch stuff.

  6. The DREAM Act is definitely a great thing that should be passed.

Enjoyed this post! Thanks for the write-up.

    Keep 'em coming! :D

  7. Have some kind of education requirement. Specialists such as builders, doctors, people who actually contribute to society.

  8. i agree with the dream act idea, it act least has some sort of incentive for them to NOT leech on all our taxes

  9. well, since our population is exceedingly high, we need to control immigration. If immigrants illegal, they do not pay taxes.

  10. should for sure be easier to become a us citizen

  11. From my understanding, becoming a US citizen takes far, far too long (at least 7 years or something crazy).

  12. "I also think we should make the process of becoming a legal immigrant for adults much easier." I couldn't agree more, man!
moving to the usa was one of my biggest dreams when i was younger but it's just not easy. i have a few friends who went there illegaly and they do not recommend at all. i always knew that's dumb. i wish i could find a easier yet legal way to immigrate.
    great post btw

  13. This is the same issue we have with inner cities... poor people move in and everyone else gets mad and tries to flee by moving elsewhere...

  14. Well i don't have any opinion in this matter :(

  15. @brn could not agree more with you

  16. ONE too many illegal immigrants, at least they will work.

  17. This is way too complicated. Moobeat is right.

  18. It will cost far too much money if they choose to go through our education system, although I do agree something needs to be done

  19. I'm in the UK, but we have the same problem from other European countries, there's camps of people waiting in France and Amsterdam waiting for their chance to come here... it's ridiculous!

  20. i just wrote a paper on this, ill make sure to check back on this blog !

  21. Interesting read. I enjoy hearing arguments about this because I can see points for both sides.

  22. I can't decide. I don't believe the DREAM act is Constitutional, however, and it definitely doesn't abide by our policies. It simply encourages illegal immigration by sanctioning certain illegal immigrants.

  23. A lot of people accuse me of being racist because I don't support illegal immigration. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's not the immigration part I have problems with, it's the illegal.

I don't approve of giving any kind of amnesty to people who snuck into the country because it only encourages others to do so. Instead, I think we should work on making it easier for people who want to come to the US to do so legally, so they don't have to sneak it.

    Just my $0.02...

  24. I support it as long as the immigrants contribute their fair share in America's society. Also as long as they don't get into any trouble with the law in which I really doubt they will, the immigrants are just looking for a better opportunity.

  25. I agree completely on this! Illegal immigration to me is robbery, but can be redeemable. So long as they prove their worth, they can have the equal benefits.

  26. I'm ok with this... But I think that the college option should be forced out. The lack of money on the illegal's part will just contribute to the governments debt, adding more people under financial aid or scholarships based on ethnicity.

  27. I'm from Arizona and have seen what it has done to the state, it could be organized, all the effort that 'Mexicans' are putting out here in the US should be put into building up their country.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with this, but yea, all this money we're spending to help them out over here, we should be using that money to help build their own country. But I do think the idea has merit

  29. There's no easy answer to illegal immigration IMO. i think the only certain way to stop them from coming over is to make them not want to come over by making their country better

    ReplyDelete
  30. the answer to the problem is getting countries like Mexico to better their own countries, so that their citizens WANT to live there and have pride in their country.

We have people who already have 4-year college degrees waiting TEN YEARS to enter the US. Why let people who break the law cut in line?

The DREAM act is a step in the right direction to fix a very complex problem. However, it's still very flawed.

  31. Everything looks good on paper bro. Hell, communism looked good on paper.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Never an easy answer to these things. Just personally I hate all the immigrants(yes that was blunt) but the dream act seems like a fair deal.

  33. There's ways to do it man. I'm 26, I studied in the US since I was 6 (private school...all the way up to graduating from college..) and! my parents paid for the whole thing as well as some scholarships. Point is, I've had to jump through an INSANE amount of hoops to get to where I'm at today and quite frankly becoming a resident seems way too much work. But, the DREAM act does sound like a good deal for people that have no other options open to them.

  34. the DREAM act, would defiently make them consider whether they want to be apart of America
    great blog, following

  35. Im Canadian so it doesn't matter to me but i think it should be easier that way you wouldn't have so many people stealing jobs because the employer only has to pay 1/4 what a american would get.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Illegal immigrants should be removed from the country, why should they get an immunity? They should have to enter the country like anyone one else, with a visa etc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I dont know much about the act but what you write sounds good. America always been an Immigration land and you have a different tradition with it over there, while Europa was and is building it's fortress especially against Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Remove the illegals!
Accept them only when EVERY person in your country has it good for them self!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I hadn't heard of the DREAM act before, but it sounds pretty good to me. But doesn't that mean that people in the military or schools would still be considered illegal?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Interesting read, hadn't heard of this act before this.

  41. does not have an opinion on this matter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. also a canadian but i like this idea. i would 100% agree with this :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't care so much about them "taking our jobs" or whatever, but I just wish they went about entering the country more legally, through the current process.

    ReplyDelete
  44. To be honest, me and my friend though of a similar system for the UK, but not because our immigration is bad (It is though), because our youth leave compulsory education at 16, and get benefits (£60 a week!) if they don't get a job! It's bs.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Definitely should pass the DREAM act
